13. Five By Five (Season 1, Episode 18)
"I'm evil! I'm bad! I'm evil! Do you hear me? I'm bad!"
Both Buffy and Angel have their fair share of complex characters, with Spike, Wesley, Willow, and the titular characters instantly coming to mind. But perhaps the most complex of them all is Faith Lehane, the rogue, bloodthirsty vampire slayer introduced in Buffy's brilliant third season. After her defeat at the hands of Buffy, Faith races to LA to help Wolfram and Hart take out Angel.
Consumed by rage, Faith kidnaps and tortures Wesley, and Angel wrestles with the challenge of making her realise the error of her ways. In the episode's final moments, Faith breaks down as she confronts Angel, and finally feels the weight of all the wrong she's done. It's a powerful conclusion to an otherwise downer of an episode, and heralds in the start of Faith's rehabilitation.
Five By Five also comes complete with flashbacks into Angel's evil past, and serves as a key turning point in Wesley's arduous character arc.
