Who lives in a pineapple under the sea? SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS!

Since its debut in 1999, SpongeBob SquarePants had been Nickelodeon's most iconic and popular franchise. The patty-flipping sea-sponge and his host of supporting characters, including Patrick Star, Squidward Tentacles, Eugene Krabbs, and Sheldon Plankton, have remained favourites for global audiences for the past twenty-one years.

Although aimed at children, this cartoon is beloved by pretty much everyone born after 1995. Its immense popularity has spawned two feature films (with the third set to release this July) and an array of merchandise.

While its only similarity to The Simpsons is that the eponymous characters of both shows are distinctly yellow, SpongeBob SquarePants is most definitely the best animated TV show since The Simpsons debuted in 1989; even though it is the most childish entry on the list, it is also the most popular, beloved, and iconic, so SpongeBob SquarePants takes the top spot.
