5. Ya Boy Kongming
Sometimes, a show comes along that makes you think, "this has no right to be as good as it is", and Ya Boy Kongming certainly feels like one of them. It's absurd, over-the-top and utterly brilliant.
As the ancient Chinese strategist Kongming lies on his deathbed, he finds himself reincarnated into modern-day Japan. When he arrives, he becomes inspired by the music of a local singer called Eiko and offers his services as a strategist to launch her career and bring peace to the world through music.
There are a few key selling points to this show, with some of the most notable being the brilliant Kongming and the passionate Eiko. But really, it's the music that takes centre stage on this one, as it rightfully should.
The songs are well scored, with an array of genres and styles that keep them fresh. This is also complemented by the expertly directed musical sequences that flow like a babbling brook and make you feel like you're inside a real Eiko concert.
It's certainly "out there" but a worthwhile watch for anyone who likes a funny, high-energy series. Plus, the opening title sequence is an absolute bop!
