After learning about the death of a childhood friend, the young Shinpei returns to his remote hometown for her funeral. However, it soon becomes clear that things aren't right, as doppelgangers cause havoc in the town, and Shinpei is forced to take action against a mysterious enemy.
Summer Time Rendering is a compelling thriller that manages its mystery wonderfully. You're always kept guessing but given enough information to feel satisfied at the same time. This helps the anime to hold your attention, as you always want to know what revelations will come in the next episode.
Besides the unravelling mystery, the series also pulls you in with deliciously captivating violence. It's a perfectly balanced treat of mystery and action, with guns, sci-fi mechanics and plenty of action-packed sequences.
It's the kind of beach holiday you'd never want for yourself, but one that's incredibly fun to watch.
