15 BEST Game Of Thrones Season 8 Theories

5. The Mad Queen

Cersei Wildfire
HBO

While there have always been whispers that Dany was destined to follow in her father's footsteps and become the Mad Queen, it would perhaps serve the show's final season better for Cersei to be the one to take on that unfortunate mantel.

Dany seems at least partly to care about her people, having been forced to learn democracy and leadership rather than just dominion, but Cersei is far more removed from her subjects (and was alienated further by her walk of shame). She cares only for the strength of her House and if that meant killing every insubordinate, then you have to suspect that she would do so to preserve her position.

She has become increasingly insular and removed from normal emotions - see that image of her watching the Sept of Baelor explode with only the slightest of smiles - and the natural arc for her, for some speculators, is to become the Mad Queen and try to kill her people in order to "win."

NCTJ-qualified journalist. Most definitely not a racing driver. Drink too much tea; eat too much peanut butter; watch too much TV. Sadly only the latter paying off so far. A mix of wise-old man in a young man's body with a child-like wonder about him and a great otherworldly sensibility.
