15 BEST Game Of Thrones Season 8 Theories

1. Arya Dies At Winterfell

Of all of the Starks, for a long time it looked like Arya was the most protected. She was, after all, one of George RR Martin's favourite underdogs - like Sam, Jon and Tyrion - and the idea of her being killed off was always too much.

But she's a different character now and there's compelling evidence to suggest that the most fitting end to Arya's arc would see her dead in defence of her family. Like her Direwolf, Nymeria, Arya went off on her own (in the service of her Kill List and becoming a Faceless Man) but was eventually drawn back to her family, casting off her Faceless Man identity with purpose and declaring herself a Stark.

That development is not finished though, as she hasn't yet truly reintegrated. She's still weird and slightly off and for lots of season 7, fans suspected she might turn on Sansa. Ultimately that was disproven, but the speculation confirms that there was enough in there to warrant it.

So what if Arya is now too far removed to really go back to being herself? What if her arc has to end with her realising her family duty and reiterating that she is a Stark. Honourable, protective, willing to die to protect the pack - everything the Starks have always been? And what better a place to do that than to sacrifice herself at Winterfell to allow her siblings to flee?

Arya's story is arguably done now, other than her Kill List and unfortunately, those remaining on her list have far more compelling rivalries and more likely candidates to kill them. So it would make sense that that's how she'll go.
