15 BEST Game Of Thrones Season 8 Theories

12. Cleganebowl

Fans of both the books and show have speculated and dreamed for years about a showdown between the two Clegane brothers, and it might finally happen in Season 8. That, however, is a bit too late for the impact it would’ve once had.

The idea of Cleganebowl isn’t just born out of Sandor and Gregor’s mutual hatred, but story and character details pointing towards it: in the books, it’s likely a reanimated Gregor will be Cersei’s champion in a trial by combat, and it could be that a still-alive Hound will then be the Faith’s. The show is well past that point now, but Season 7’s finale teased something to come between the brothers as Sandor stared down what was left of his brother, telling him: “You know who’s coming for you. You’ve always known.”

The war with Cersei is far from over. And to win that war, you need to kill the Mountain. If anyone on the other side is going to volunteer for that task, it’s the Hound. He’s back with a purpose, and that might be to kill the Mountain. But that seems a little too easy. Even better would be if the Hound does fight the Mountain, but doesn’t come out of it well. In scenario one, the Mountain kills him, and then Arya kills the Mountain, ticking another name off her list.

In scenario two, and even better, is that the Hound does kill the Mountain, but is left gravely injured as well. And it’s at that point Arya sees him, calling back to when she left him to die at Season 4 and refused his pleas to kill him. And this time, the girl who lost her identity and became warped by a quest for vengeance, delivers mercy.

Get hype?
