15 Best New TV Characters Of The Decade
8. Fleabag - Fleabag
Fleabag (both the show and the character) couldn’t really be more British if they tried. Witty but self deprecating, hilarious yet almost impossibly dry, Fleabag is a show you really have to ‘get’. Similar to Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, it may well have passed a lot of people by, but it really shouldn’t have.
Adapted from Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s one woman show, Fleabag had a fairly successful first season back in 2016, but grew into a phenomenon with its second season earlier this year. Waller-Bridge even got invited to Saturday Night Live with Taylor Swift, as well as being brought aboard the new James Bond flick.
Aided by Killing Eve (also written by Waller-Bridge, with Jodie Comer’s Villanelle unlucky to miss out here), Waller-Bridge is one of the hottest names around. With Fleabag being gloriously unfiltered and an unmistakably modern lead, it’s easy to see why. Perhaps not the most likeable character on a personal level, but a hilarious one nonetheless.
Fleabag also marks the second time Andrew Scott misses out, being overshadowed by the titular character. His Hot Priest (and Moriarty in Sherlock) would both be worthy of inclusion on another day too.
