There's no doubt that Rick and Morty co-creator Justin Roiland had his work cut out for him when he endeavoured to create a follow up to his beloved sci fi comedy series.

But even without Community's Dan Harmon involved, the quick-paced and frenetic sci-fi sitcom mash up Solar Opposites proved a stellar delight.

Following the exploits of a family of aliens stranded on earth, the family dynamic is perfectly balanced between the stoic, frustrated Korvo, the lunatic Terry, and the mismatched pair of scheming, amoral kids.

Solar Opposites debuted on Hulu in May and has won over not only the infamously picky Rick and Morty fanbase, but many new admirers for Roiland's madcap satirical cartoon stylings.

It's easy to see why, with the family's exploits combining sitcom charm with a sharp satirical wit and an ambitious overarching vision, as seen in its already infamous post-apocalyptic subplot concerning "the wall".
