You can never have too much science fiction in your life. A statement that, while debatable, is undoubtedly true for many, it's also one that TV networks have sworn by over the years as they cranked out an endless supply of both newfangled and derivative sci-fi adventures on the small screen left, right and centre.

Now, as we stand on the precipice of a new decade, the small screen science fiction phenomenon looks more promising than ever, but as we can't travel to the future just yet, let's take a trip into the past instead and celebrate the best sci-fi shows of the previous one.

Yes, the 2010s was an interesting decade for the science fiction genre - both on the big screen and the small - as it witnessed the rise of some of the world's most popular shows, the fall of former heavyweights, the much-anticipated return of some true classics and even an unexpected superhero renaissance. And it's hard to imagine what the current TV landscape would look like without its influence.

With that in mind, let's get to know the very best that the genre had to offer over the past 10 years.

15. Star Trek: Discovery

It's crazy to think that we're now in 2020 and Star Trek: Discovery isn't even the latest Stark Trek series to grace our screens. That's an example of just how enduring the popular franchise still is after nearly six decades.

All that aside, it was the latest entry back in 2017 when it revved its way onto CBS All Access - making it the first series in the franchise since 2005. The thing that sets this one apart from all previous Star Trek offerings, however, is the fact that it is the first to be set before the classic 1966 series - 900 years before it to be exact.

Yes, that did lead to a number of issues throughout the course of the first season as the show initially struggled to work out a few kinks here and there, but having successfully done so in Season 2, it's now one of the most compelling science fiction shows on TV - and this writer is certainly excited to see how it carries the Star Trek legacy into another new decade.
