15 Best Sci-Fi TV Shows Of The 2010s

13. The Boys

The science fiction and superhero genres have always gone hand-in-hand to some extent because, at the end of the day, you need a bit of sci-fi to explain some of the madness that goes on in these shows - and that's something this list will delve into a little more as it moves along - and yet, there is no superhero show more unorthodox than Amazon's The Boys.

Set in a bizarre world in which superheroes are merely faces for powerful businesses that don't have any intention of doing any real good, The Boys offers an insightful look into greed, wealth and character motivations. And it does all of this by juxtaposing the so-called heroes with The Boys - a rough-around-the-edges group of vigilantes that steps up to confront the corrupted heroes and ultimately do the right thing.

With in-your-face adult humour and an over-reliance on violence, The Boys certainly won't be for everyone. It's not mainstream superhero TV, and it's definitely not for the faint of heart. That, however, is why it thrives. And thrive it did, delivering a first season that was both loyal to the comic book and incredibly innovative at the same time.
