Elliot, who do you think youve been talking to? Mr Robot was the show of the summer, and the sleeper hit of the year. Airing on the rather unlikely USA network, hopes may not have been high when it was announced that the channel had picked up a series about a group of hackers starring Christian Slater. What we got was an extremely intelligent and gripping drama that, yes, was about hacking, but also a take-down critique of corporate America, complete with a Fight Club-esque sense of mystery. That all unfolded in wonderful fashion in the penultimate episode. The big reveal wasn't all that much of a shocking twist - many had already guessed what was going to happen - and thankfully this episode never relies solely on that moment to be enough. Rather, it sets it up, but also makes sure there the audience will be fully aware of just what it means, and the fallout from it. All of the painful realisation plays out through Elliot and Mr Robot, in the present and the past, as the former starts to piece together all of the things he has done and blamed the latter for, and it gives us an emotionally satisfying pay-off to the show's mystery.
NCTJ-qualified journalist. Most definitely not a racing driver. Drink too much tea; eat too much peanut butter; watch too much TV. Sadly only the latter paying off so far.
A mix of wise-old man in a young man's body with a child-like wonder about him and a great otherworldly sensibility.
