Appeared in: Season 2, Episode 9 - "The Trial" (first mentioned), Season 3 Episode 1 - "Heartthrob" (first appearance, in flashbacks) Daniel Holtz was an 18th century vampire hunter who vowed to track down and punish Angelus (and Darla) after the vampire murdered his family. Actually, more accurately, after Angelus raped his wife, murdered his infant son, and turned his daughter into a vampire, leaving Holtz to dispose of her. Which he did, throwing the girl-child vampire into the son and watching her burn to ashes. Holtz was dogged in his determination to find Angelus, killing hundreds of vampires over the years and eventually traveling through time (in a fashion) to catch the creature - who had by that point become Angel, the vampire with a soul, who fought for the side of good. Which is why Holtz is so damned creepy - he should be a good guy. We understand his motivations. However, his thirst for vengeance isn't quenched when he learns that the monster he once knew has become a hero. Instead, he takes away what Angel took from him: a son. He steals Angel's human (mostly) son Connor, taking him to the dimension Quor'toh. He does return, as a grown boy, but Angel has lost his childhood - and the boy hates him.
