15 Famous Artists You Didn't Know Competed In Eurovision

14. Olivia Newton-John - Long Live Love (United Kingdom)

What is She Know For? Olivia Newton-John is a four-time Grammy winning Australian singer who is best known for playing Sandy in the 1978 musical film Grease.

At Eurovision (Fourth Place): At the 1974 Eurovision Song Contest in Brighton, England, Olivia Newton-John performed second out of seventeen countries with the song Long Live Love, which she was actually not fond of, but she turned in a decent performance anyway. Too bad she was overshadowed by a certain Swedish pop group with a catchier song that actually won Eurovision, but Newton-John managed to land a respectable fourth place.

After Eurovision: After leaving the United Kingdom for America where she churned out successful singles, Olivia Newton-John got her biggest boost to superstardom when she starred as Sandy in Grease (1978), a nostalgic musical film about teenagers in the 1950s. Grease was the highest grossing film in 1978 and its soundtrack stayed at number 1 for 12 consecutive weeks, providing Newton-John with a few more hit singles. Her film career floundered when her next film Xanadu (1980) flopped at the box office, but the Xanadu soundtrack went double platinum and Newton-John remained a presence in pop music. Oh, and what about the Swedish pop group after they won the 1974 Eurovision Song Contest? Who knows what they amounted to...
