9. Mad Men: Every Season Gets Better As It Progresses

Most TV shows have at least one series that trails off after a great start. It's natural to take a bit of a dip, and a lot of programmes are better once they've pulled their socks up to overcome "the duff series". Not Mad Men though. In all six seasons, the show has got better as it's progressed, with four of the six finales being the best-rated story that season. In fact, the show is incredibly consistent throughout, with only five episodes failing to score more than 8/10. Season 5 is the only one to occasionally drop the ball, but though finale 'The Phantom' (8.5) may not have ranked as highly as other finales with IMDB users, 'Far Away Places', 'The Other Woman' and 'Commission And Fees' all hit over 9/10: that's more over 9 than any other season. The top episode is still the majestic 'The Suitcase'. Will anything in the final season - arriving next month - top a 9.4, perhaps?
