15 Great Sci-Fi Shows (Nobody Ever Talks About)
13. Nightmare Cafe
Created by A Nightmare on Elm Street helmer Wes Craven, this sci-fi series melded elements of fantasy, comedy, and, of course, horror into its short run, but the premise of the titular reality-warping greasy spoon was pure sci-fi brilliance.
With a sparse cast including Freddy Krueger himself, horror icon Robert Englund, the series used its sentient setting to great effect for what was in essence a weekly anthology show that confined its action to the eponymous strange, surreal lone set.
This one deserved a far longer life than NBC were willing to offer its odd, inventive premise, and we’re glad to see it rerun late at night which really is the only appropriate time for such a trippy series.
