15 Greatest American Horror Story Characters
4. Sister Jude
There is a good reason why Jessica Lange was one of the most important aspects of the earlier seasons of American Horror Story. After portraying Constance Langdon in Murder House, a character that just missed out on her own entry on this list, she played the strict and severe head nun at Briarcliff, Sister Jude.
Constantly battling the demons of her past, Jude throws herself into her work at the institute, handling any obstacle that she comes face to face with, from undercover reporters to power struggles with Dr. Arden. Though this is how she began season two, it is certainly not how she ended it.
There are very few characters, if any at all, that have gone through such a transition as Sister Jude. Her spectacular fall from grace saw her relegated to an inmate at Briarcliff where she ultimately lost her mind. Eventually Jude was saved by Kit, the man she once imprisoned, and became something of a grandmother figure to his children.
It takes a very talented actor to make an audience feel such hatred toward a character, before being filled with utter sorrow and sympathy by the end.
