As the surprise reveal of the Master had been done so well in Utopia, who would have thought they could ever match it again? But this year they matched it and then some. If a kindly old man turning out to be the Master shocked us, then the Master turning out to be an evil Mary Poppins with an army of Cybermen at her beck and call - and a woman! - was really unexpected. The mysterious Missy had been watching the Doctor's - or rather her 'boyfriend''s - exploits throughout the duration of Series 8 and in the penultimate episode of the series we finally found out her identity. Many had thought her a female member of the Doctor's race but she turned out not to be the Rani or Romana but the Master, regenerated into female form. The episode also ends with Cybermen marching down the steps of St Pauls (recreating another classic cliffhanger from their past) and poor deceased Danny Pink about to delete his emotions, but the Missy reveal is really the heart - or should that be two hearts - of this cliffhanger. The twist is entertaining on its own but the icing on the cake is the look of utter confusion on the Doctor's face, which then promptly falls into terror, as if to say, 'no, not the Master, you can't be back - wait, didn't we kiss earlier!?' Yes, Doctor. Yes you did. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RcpjNoEUCgU
