15 Mind-Blowing Facts About Supergirl You Need To Know

13. Cir-El Supergirl

One of the more unusual efforts to introduce a new Supergirl into the DC Universe - and bear in mind that there are multiple versions of pretty much every character due to reboots, different timelines, and alternate realities - came in the early 2000s with the debut of a young girl who called herself Cir-El. After saving Metropolis from yet another crazed villain, this Supergirl claimed to be the daughter of Clark Kent and Lois Lane from a post apocalyptic future. Despite being wary of the new Supergirl, Superman was happy to treat her like family, but here's where things get complicated and confusing. It turns out that Cir-El was just a homeless girl called Mia who Brainiac experimented on, grafting Kryptonian DNA to her body and implanting false memories of another life. The villain's master plan was to unleash a nano virus within Cir-El's body which would have killed Lois Lane and convinced Superman to transfer her consciousness into a synthetic body that Brainiac would then use to return in. Still with me? This convoluted tale came to an end when a horrified Cir-El threw herself into a time portal to prevent herself from ever being born, laying waste to Brainiac's master plan in the process. That was probably for the best in all honesty...
