15 Mind-Blowing Facts About Supergirl You Need To Know

14. Her First Boyfriend Was Her Pet Horse

The 1960s was a very unique era for comic books, and DC in particular really embraced a camp approach to storytelling. Nowhere was that more evident than in the adventures of Superman and those related to him, making the fact that Supergirl had a pet horse with superpowers probably the least bizarre thing about these characters at the time. Comet the Super-Horse - who debuted in Superboy's 1962 comic book series before making the move to Supergirl's bonus stories in Action Comics - actually ended up dating his owner! In this gloriously daft tale, it was revealed that Comet was originally a centaur in ancient Greece who was given superpowers by an ancient witch called Circe (a role it's believed Eva Green is going to take on in the upcoming Wonder Woman movie). In Supergirl's comic, Comet ended up receiving a human form - "Bronco" Bill Starr, because people had names like that back then apparently - and he actually embarked on a romantic relationship with the Girl of Steel. However, he was only able to transform when a certain comet passed the Earth, and the relationship between these two soon petered out as this decade came to a close.
