15 Mind-Blowing Facts You Didn't Know About Red Dwarf

6. The Aigburth Arms Is A Real Pub

Many of Britain's great sitcoms were conceived in a pub. For Red Dwarf, it's this one. Yes, The Aigburth Arms exists in this dimension. See? It's even got an Astra parked outside. In the 80s this Liverpudlian watering hole was a regular drinking spot for show creators Rob Grant and Doug Naylor as they scribbled down ideas on scraps of paper and beer mats over a few pints. While the venue has changed its name several times in the past thirty years, the Red Dwarf writers borrowed the original moniker for the "back-alley Scouse drinking pit" where Dave Lister was found abandoned as a baby. Much like Captain Kirk in the recent Star Trek reboot, a young Rimmer would often drink here in the days before he joined the Space Corps. This is all well and good but does it have a pool table and has anyone checked underneath it recently?
