15 Mind-Blowing Facts You Didn't Know About Red Dwarf

4. Cat Was A Woman

True. In the second pilot for Red Dwarf USA, Cat had a sex change. Tony Award-winner Hinton Battle had originally been hired to capture the theatricality of Danny John-Jules's Cat but casting concerns from NBC meant that Rob Grant and Doug Naylor made one huge change for the next try. Enter Terry Farrell, who channelled her inner-Cheetara and did the best she could but even this original switch couldn't save the show and it wasn't picked up for a full series. This left Farrell free to put more clothes on and explore other career opportunities and she didn't stray too far from intergalactic travel, a year later she joined the cast of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine as Jadzia Dax. Oh and that head you see at the bottom of the Red Dwarf USA promo shot? That's Holly, played by Jane Leeves who went on to play Daphne in Frasier. It's a small universe.
