Years before Nick Frost invaded the TARDIS, Father Christmas ended up on Red Dwarf. Fans had been starved of new material for over eight years and anticipation was huge except these mobisodes weren't very good. Why? They were animated The total runtime was less than two minutes They were mobile-only and mobiles were rubbish then Although Chris Barrie and Robert Llewellyn picked up their roles as Rimmer and Kryten both Craig Charles and Danny John-Jules were unavailable The idea driving the Red Dwarf Mobile Service was sound and arguably pioneering with the right intentions but the execution was wrong. A bit of novelty fun over a turkey sandwich yes, enough to satisfy a hungry Red Dwarf fan's appetite? No. Luckily they didn't have long to wait as a long-awaited eighth series went into production a little over a year later. Phew.
