Doctor Who, coming off the back of its superb ninth series, is taking a year off as it gears up to go big for Moffat's last go as showrunner next year.

That leaves a pretty big void, but thankfully there is a spin-off coming to help fill it. Class, which will air on BBC Three, will centre on the students of the famous Coal Hill School. It's been a part of the Who universe since the beginning, something that has taken its toll, making "the walls of space and time stretch thin, and monsters beyond imagination are planning to break through and wreak havoc upon the Earth." Add in to that a number of sixth formers trying to deal with exams, social lives, sex, and parents, and you have the makings of an intriguing series set in the Who-world.

Even more exciting is the man behind it, Patrick Ness. One of the finest YA authors around right now, giving hope this could be like Doctor Who meets Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
