'Court life' plays a huge part in the Kings Landing chapters of the books, as Cersei Lannister attempts to manipulate as many people in her favour as possible. Her 'wars' against her brother Tyrion, Margaery Tyrell and the Faith are ever-present in both mediums, though they are much more direct on the screen than they are on the page, where a large supporting cast are engaged as proxies and supporting players.

One of the most notable of these is Taena Merryweather, the wife of one of the many appointments she makes to the Small Council, the politics of which have been largely cut from the series as the open positions with it have been largely ignored. She becomes a confidant and source of comfort for the increasingly paranoid Cersei, who begins to take actions such as sending those who fail her or are suspected of spying on her to Qyburn so that he can perform his twisted experiments.

Taena is not one of these and perhaps her most notable moment comes when, after sharing a bed on a number occasions, she and Cersei engage in a brief and experimental sexual activity. Given that the series has always taken advantage of the opportunity to show as many sex scenes as possible, it's quite difficult to believe that they passed up the opportunity to depict Cersei and Taena's rather explicit encounter. Given that she is largely superfluous to other proceedings, however, it's likely that sex was cast aside in favour of trimming the narrative for once.
