First up on our list is the newest and arguably the prettiest release in the genre. The Expanse sees humanity forging a colonisation of the solar system, with an intergalactic Cold War brewing as a result of a grand conspiracy.

Highly praised for its performance and political narrative, this series is only aided by its vast suite of technical presentations, which allow the viewer to lose themselves in this unpredictable future. Others have lauded the franchise's solid representation of science, but this is only the tip of the iceberg as the production companies work their magic on the

Syfy's ambitions have certainly paid off in spades with The Expanse, which ranks as easily the most technically stunning show on the small screen today. The first two seasons alone had over 4600 video effect shots woven into 23 episodes using the cinesync editing software.

These effects cover celestial backdrops, creature design and gargantuan explosions as the various factions in the show clash through the series. It all blends so seamlessly with the cinematography by Jeremy Benning, Michael Galbraith, Ray Dumas. With Amazon having picked up the series thanks to a fan petition, the show is set to deliver more stunning sights in the upcoming fifth season.
