For longtime HBO viewers, Alan Ball needs no introduction. He's the man responsible for giving the channel two of its biggest hits, Six Feet Under and True Blood, and now he's returning with a new series order. It doesn't have a title as yet, but the official synopsis is as follows:

"This untitled series focuses on a contemporary multi-racial family: a philosophy professor, his lawyer wife, their three adopted children from Somalia, Vietnam and Colombia, and their sole biological child. This seemingly perfect, progressive family is in actuality harbouring deep rifts. Then, one of the children begins to see things others cannot. Is it mental illness? Or something else? The series is a tragicomic meditation on the complicated forces at work on us all in America today."

A blend of family drama with more potentially fantasy elements sounds like a great fit for Ball, and hopefully he can replicate the success and quality of those aforementioned shows (well, the first few seasons of True Blood anyway).

NCTJ-qualified journalist. Most definitely not a racing driver. Drink too much tea; eat too much peanut butter; watch too much TV. Sadly only the latter paying off so far. A mix of wise-old man in a young man's body with a child-like wonder about him and a great otherworldly sensibility.
