15 New Upcoming HBO Series To Be Excited About
3. Sharp Objects
Sharp Objects was ordered straight-to-series by HBO earlier this year, and it's pretty easy to see why. The show comes from Gone Girl author Gillian Flynn, adapting her own novel, and stars multi-time Oscar nominee (and, surely, future winner) Amy Adams.
Flynn's debut novel centres on reporter Camille Preaker, who leaves psych hospital and immediately has to return to her small hometown to cover the murder of two preteen girls, forcing her to confront her own demons at the same time.
Marti Nixon, who co-created UnREAL and wrote and produced episodes of Buffy, is serving as showrunner, with Flynn co-writing the series, and that man Jean-Marc Valée directing all eight episodes of the limited series. The premise is intriguing, and the talent involved makes it difficult to see this one failing. Adams may not yet have an Oscar, but expect this one to get her close to an Emmy.
