Following the demise of the Demogorgon, Mike, Will, Dustin and Lucas returned to life as normal (or as normal as it could be) by playing Dungeons & Dragons. Though Mike's 'Something is coming' line is intentionally written to mirror the season's opening, the events of the campaign play out in a way that was clearly inspired by the Demogorgon's death only a month earlier.

After Will chose to Fireball the Thessalhydra, Mike revealed that it let out a painful shriek, making a guttural noise that sounded identical to the way the creature screeched when Eleven tore it to shreds.

As he continued the narration of the game, he revealed that the Thessalhydra's 'clawed hand reaches for [them] one last time' before dying - just as the Demorgorgan reached for Eleven seconds before its death.
