15 Times S**t Got Real In Game Of Thrones

5. Arya And The Hound: Chickens

Red Wedding Game Of Thrones
HBO

Working us down to our last nerve and rewarding our perseverance with a prolonged and frantic fight to the death, the infamous 'Chickens Scene' let The Hound off his leash and fans were treated to some Clegane violence they could cheer for.

Polliver is a peripheral character that impresses with his engaging exchange here which, due to his history, gave fans full license to enjoy watching him squirm.

Tension was expected but twisting it around on the antagonists using Sandor was a clever way to for once take the pressure off of Arya. Looking at the scene again it is set up so that you have cause to enjoy the climax, with the Lannister soldiers enjoying the innkeeper's daughter and stealing from him.

The lack of score during the Clegane portion of the fight highlights the brutality and refuses outright to couch it in any positive or negative way until Clegane is in peril. Even then it feels more for Arya. Her own calculated killing is a nice contrast to Sandor's, giving us a glimpse of the dark avenger she may become.
