12. The Walking Dead - Season Nine
The Walking Dead has had its ups and downs over the years, and it's almost unanimously agreed that the horror drama's seventh and eighth seasons fairly dropped the ball.
When the show was renewed for a ninth season, then, things didn't look too promising. Luckily for the fans, a new showrunner - the brilliant Angela Kang - was brought in and managed to work a miracle, by offering up what might just be the show's best-even season.
What makes the season work so effectively lies in how well its risks pay off. Series protagonist Rick Grimes finds himself written out of the season early, there's a major time-jump, and the devilish Whisperer threat allows the show to lean into its horror roots like never before.
With added scares and numerous amazing character deaths, The Walking Dead's ninth season gave the show a much-needed second wind - one it's still enjoying to this day.
