15 TV Seasons That Are Totally Flawless

13. Dexter - Season Four

Better Call Saul
Showtime

The first three seasons made for great TV, but Dexter's fourth chapter is where the drama hit its peak.

Having settled into a nice little family life with his wife Rita, forensic analyst and serial killer Dexter spends the season at his most content and in control, until the vicious Trinity Killer enters the scene and shakes up his whole world.

With its fourth season, Dexter found its perfect tone, pace and villain (John Lithgow is truly horrifying), and found the killer-of-killers facing his biggest adversary and highest stakes yet.

From the typically inspired acting performances, the tighter-than-ever writing and the simmering tension that constantly refuses to cool, Dexter's middle instalment signified the show's ultimate high point. From here, it was all downhill, but the fact that something as great as season four exists at all is reason enough to keep smiling when remembering the series.
