10. The Young Person's Guide To Becoming A Rock Star Gerard Butler
This series was very early on in Gerard Butler's career, back in 1998. Admittedly prior to this he had two film roles but neither of them were particularly notable and mostly just bit-parts. Those being a sailor in Tomorrow Never Dies, and in the Judi Dench/Billy Connolly film Mrs Brown. After that he was cast in The Young Person's Guide To Becoming A Rock Star as Marty Claymore for all six of the episodes of that series. The series was set in Scotland, and followed a band from Glasgow as they tried to break into the industry. Butler wasn't one of the main cast members, but is credited for all six episodes. Despite only being six episodes long, the series managed to be remade for the United States, which was broadcast on The WB as My Guide To Becoming A Rock Star. There's a good reason why you probably haven't heard of that show it only had five episodes out of thirteen broadcast before it was cancelled. This was one of those shows that had no involvement in an actor's big break. He did a whole bunch more British television before starting to ramp up his film credentials with appearences in Reign of Fire, the second Tomb Raider film (someone from the first Tomb Raider film will be appearing on this list later) and then of course exploded into forefront of viewer's mind in 300. The Young Person's Guide To Becoming A Rock Star did feature a number of British celebrity cameos, including one of the Gallagher brothers and Jay Kay from Jamiroquai. But to suggest that someone would end up headlining hugely success from a very short lived Channel 4 series with a bunch of very strong Scottish accents in the cast would be madness.
