15 Unlikely British TV Shows To Spawn Hollywood Stars

11. Spaced €“ Simon Pegg

http://youtu.be/EZnsOZsA7_4 Somehow when Spaced was first broadcast on Channel 4 I completely missed it. On the recommendation of a friend I picked up the full DVD set and pretty much watched it back to back. If you haven't seen it, and you are into the general themes that this website generally covers, then watch it. It is the story of two people who pretend to be a couple to get a ridiculously cheap flat in London and the people they interact with. Truth be told, Spaced reunited several portions of an earlier series called Asylum. You see, it was another series directed by Edgar Wright and starring Simon Pegg and Jessica Hynes (then Stephenson). These three reunited for Spaced and had a very successful two seasons there. Spaced led to the film Shaun of the Dead and eventually the other two parts of the Cornetto trilogy. But even so, Shaun of the Dead didn't really launch Pegg's career. He appeared in a couple of British films and made a cameo in Land of the Dead. What eventually broke him as a bigger player was his appearance in Mission: Impossible III. After that came the new Star Trek films, Paul, and another Mission: Impossible film amongst others. Edgar Wright did well out of Spaced as well, and he's in the midst of sorting out Marvel's Ant-Man film right now. Jessica Hynes has had a successful career in British television as well, but nothing near Pegg's success. I met Pegg a couple of years back at the premiere of Paul in London. Somehow we were walking out of the cinema and my wife literally grabs him and drags him over to me. I blurted out how I really liked the film when really I wanted to quote him on his famous Jar Jar Binks quote. And if you don't know that quote, then you need to watch Spaced.

I'm a pop culture addict. Television, cinema, comics, games - you name it, and I've done it. Or at least read the plot synopsis on Wikipedia.
