Transparent is the best example to date of just what Amazon can achieve with its original programming, a sitcom as clever, witty, and daring as you'll find anywhere else. It's their biggest success story to date, landing two Golden Globes for its first season, and it looks set to continue that with season 2 airing this December. 

It follows the Pfefferman family as they learn that their father Mort has been hiding a secret from them for years, that he is actually transgender and identifies as a woman, Maura. It shows them dealing with that in a variety of emotional and humorous ways, and also the fallout that leads to other secrets spilling out. 

Jeffrey Tambor is great in the role, and the show has opened up many doors in the industry for transgender people, not just by talking about it on the series, but having a number of people who are transgender working on it.
