17 Hidden TV Show Gems On Amazon Prime
11. The Newsroom
Aaron Sorkin has never created anything as great as The West Wing, and in fairness he probably won't manage to ever eclipse that show, which is more of a testament to its quality than a decline in his ability.
The Newsroom, at times at least, was a real showcase of Sorkin's talent for writing fantastic dialogue and dealing with issues, usually political, that he feels are important. The series takes many shots at the Republicans, the One Percent, and of course cable news itself. At its worst it can be extremely self-indulgent and self-important, and nowhere near as clever as it thinks it is, but there are plenty of moments throughout its three seasons (the first two are on Prime) that are peak Sorkin, with writing that is clever, thought-provoking, and well-acted by the likes of Jeff Daniels and Emily Mortimer.
If you're a fan of Sorkin's work, then this definitely holds up with the rest of his post-Wing work, and despite its flaws is a series worth watching for its qualities.
