17 Hottest New TV Shows Debuting This Summer

2. Scream

€œYou can€™t do a slasher movie as a TV series.€ The characters in the show may have their doubts, but the producers at MTV don€™t as they launch their take on the Scream franchise. It won€™t tie into the film series, but tell its own story instead. It€™ll start with a YouTube video of two of the characters that goes viral, and ends up as the catalyst for a brutal murder. That invokes memories of a killing spree from the town€™s past, and possibly inspires a new killer as well. It promises to be retaining the DNA of the franchise, with the gory horror elements being accompanied by the mystery over who the murderer is, as well as lots of trademark meta-humour. There€™s also a new mask this time around, meaning no more Ghostface. He€™s so synonymous with the films that the show have redesigned it, again in keeping with the spirit of the original, and it€™s said to have a much bigger part to play in the backstory of the killer. There may (understandably) be reservations over the need for a Scream TV show, but it looks like it should be fun, and possibly prove you can indeed do a slasher movie on TV.

NCTJ-qualified journalist. Most definitely not a racing driver. Drink too much tea; eat too much peanut butter; watch too much TV. Sadly only the latter paying off so far. A mix of wise-old man in a young man's body with a child-like wonder about him and a great otherworldly sensibility.
