13. Norman Kills Sam Loomis - Bates Motel

After the final season of Bates Motel shocked audiences by having Marion Crane (Rihanna) survive her stay at the motel in episode six, fans got a brutal shower murder in the very next episode, as "Mother" (Vera Farmiga) compared Sam Loomis (Austin Nichols) to Norman's (Freddie Highmore) father, causing him to angrily attack Loomis in the shower, killing him.

It was a fantastically unexpected way to subvert Alfred Hitchcock's classic movie rather than just retread it, giving fans the shower scene they'd been waiting for but also not just pulling a shot-for-shot Psycho remake (because we all know how well that's gone in the past).

Highmore's searing performance and the disturbing gore on display makes this one of the series' best and most memorable scenes.
