17 Shows To Binge-Watch Before They Return This Fall

17. The Good Wife

If critical acclaim translated to number of people viewing, then The Good Wife would be the most watched show on television. As it is, it€™s the one everyone raves about, but few have actually seen. It is consistently nominated for a slew of Golden Globes and Emmys, with best actress wins for Julianna Margulies in 2010 (Globes), 2011 and 2014 (both Emmys).

She plays Alicia Florrick, a mother-of-two who has stayed at home for the past 13 years (being €˜the good wife') but returns to her old job as a litigator when her politician husband is sent to jail. It has all the complexity and sheen you€™d expect of a cable show, but done on a network (CBS), has an extremely strong female lead, and confidently deals with politics, law and society.

There have been six seasons so far, with one and two containing 23 episodes, and the other four having 22, so there€™s a fair bit to get into before season 7 arrives on October 4. It€™s available on Netflix in the UK, Amazon Prime and Hulu in the US.
