17 Shows To Binge-Watch Before They Return This Fall
14. The Simpsons
You'll never stop The Simpsons. Yes, it's still going, and is remarkably going to be entering its 27th season this September. We have reached the stage now, sadly, where there are more poor seasons of The Simpsons than good ones, but despite that fact it's still worth tuning in, just on the off-chance, that faintest glimmer of hope, that it has managed to recapture some of the magic it once had. Some voices may proclaim 'it's still good, it's still good!', but in recent years the highlights have tended to come not from the episodes but from smaller moments, such as guest-edited credits sequences (such as Guillermo del Toro's) or standalone political clips (Homer deciding who to vote for, Groundskeeper Willie weighing into the Scottish independence debate). Really, the best thing to do is simply go back and binge-watch as much of the old stuff as possible, especially in that season 2-10 golden period, where the show stands head-and-shoulders above almost anything else made. Even up to around season 13 it's still good TV, and while it may not be what it once was, that shouldn't diminish its legacy. Before giving the show another last chance (approximately its 14th), go back and remind yourself of what made it so great.
NCTJ-qualified journalist. Most definitely not a racing driver. Drink too much tea; eat too much peanut butter; watch too much TV. Sadly only the latter paying off so far.
A mix of wise-old man in a young man's body with a child-like wonder about him and a great otherworldly sensibility.
