17 Visually Stunning TV Opening Credits

9. GLOW

The first show to probably cross your mind when thinking about 1980s-inspired opening credits would be Stranger Things. The minimalistic outlines of glowing red text and synth music are used to great effect. However, there’s something so nostalgic and visually striking about GLOW’s animated opening.

Based on actual 1980s televised sporting events, the neon-outlined women celebrate this bygone era and the wrestling-warriors that inhabited it. Shynola, a trio of British visual artists, filmed the wrestling actions on modern cameras before painstakingly rotoscoping them.

It’s a travesty that the sequence doesn’t open every episode with the amount of effort that went into it, as they perfectly encapsulate this wrestling era. As Shynola’s Richard “Kenny” Kenworthy states:

It had to feel like a modern version of something, like being teleported through time almost. It’s your memory of the ‘80s but not a caricature of the ‘80s.
