2. Don't Tell Mama - Sharp Objects

For eight episodes Sharp Objects had us sweating, whether it was from its stifling sense of atmosphere and mood, or its dark, twisted mystery that ran through its very rotten core. Eventually, after a finale so intense as to cause a few heart-attacks, we thought we had not only answers, but a happy ending. Aurora was the murderer, and Camille and Amma had escaped to start a new life together.

And then Camille looks at the dollhouse.

The morbid discovery of the teeth leads to one of 2018's most shocking plot twists, as Amma walks in and, without missing a beat, simply says: "Don't tell mama." The moment is one of complete horror, perfectly juxtaposed with the non-threatening appearance of Amma herself, and made much scarier by the lack of remorse displayed.

The credits roll as you feel you've been hit with a sledgehammer, before the post-credits reveal more of her heinous acts. It might not be the #1 scene of the year, but there's no competition when it comes to how downright disturbing it is.
