15. He Knew How To Party
When your life is filled with the stresses of raising five kids, maintaining a happy marriage and judging criminals on a daily basis, you need to be able to let your hair down every once in a while. Uncle Phil had no problem with this whatsoever. Disregarding Hilary's Halloween fancy dress party (where his "Comfortable Man" costume failed to set the world alight), that is.
14. He Fought The Power
Part of the Civil Rights movement in the 60's, Uncle Phil was present at the Selma and Watts riots, heard Malcolm X speak in person, earned a place on the board of the NAACP and was even awarded the Urban Spirit Award for his political efforts. Uncle Phil had the experience and maturity to regularly enlighten Will on what it really means to stand up for what you believe in.
13. He Was A Talented Sportsman
Uncle Phil was the quintessential All-American multi-faceted athlete. After living out his years at Princeton as a football hero, in his later (less agile) life he took to playing pool (at which he was so talented he could beat veteran players while simultaneously eating a sandwich) and golf, where he, Will and Carlton won a yearly club tournament in 1996.
