Immediately after the first season, things didn't get better for Emilia Clarke. In 2011, after living with a brain aneurism for 2 years, suffered a life threatening bleed on her brain during an exercise session and was immediately operated on: an operation that around 50-60% of people survive. She got through the non invasive surgery but couldn't remember her own name.

She recovered and a month later she was discharged from hospital, ready to get back onto the Game of Thrones set, despite still being in tremendous pain and fatigue. She had a smaller aneurism on her brain but decided not to have it removed, and 2 years later after season 3 it grew to double its size and an operation was necessary.

The operation failed and she suffered another massive bleed and the prognosis was bleak if they didn't operate again. The invasive surgery had parts of her skull replaced by titanium and she spent another month in hospital before she could even think about working again.

Thankfully, she has made a full recovery and competed the series with nary a blemish.
