18 Things You Didn't Know About Game Of Thrones

17. What Remains Of The Pilot

Jon And Dany
HBO

It's well known by now that the 2009 pilot episode for Game of Thrones was an absolute disaster, to the point that it was a miracle that the show was picked up for a series, and as yet the full episode has never seen the light of day.

According to Benioff & Weiss, only about 10% of the original footage remains in the first episode, "Winter is Coming". This includes the full feast scene, Sansa's scenes with her mother (though both were interspliced with reshoots with Michelle Fairley) and scenes in the crypt with Ned and Robert. Aside from this nothing from the pilot remains.

Continuity became a problem for some of the cast, who had grown significant facial hair between shooting. As such a shaving scene was written in for Robb, Theon and Jon, one that Dave and Dan described as "one of the worst" and "most embarrassing scenes ever" written.
