20 Best Anime TV Series Of All Time
16. Kill La Kill
Like Katanagatari, Kill La Kill also features plenty of combat, although here it is of the completely over the top variety, where the stars on a person's uniform dictate what crazy weapons and abilities they can wield.
There's an element of political incorrectness to vengeance-seeking protagonist Ryuuko Matoi's sexy outfit common to a lot of anime which is clearly the product of male wish fulfilment fantasies, but none of this stops Kill La Kill being one of the most fun and intense action animes of all time.
The battles are long, loud and as outrageous as the silly characters we see fighting, but it's the way it takes well-worn tropes from countless anime series and throws them back with a nod and a wink that makes it frequently funny as well.
