20 Best Anime TV Series Of All Time

15. Steins;Gate

Steins Gate
Funimation Entertainment

While Kill La Kill goes for the jugular with its onslaught of action, Steins;Gate takes a much more measured approach to the story, working hard to establish the characters before ratcheting up the drama.

A tale of time travel, Steins;Gate revolves around self-proclaimed "mad scientist" Rintarou Okabe and his assistants, who discover one of their devices is a time machine able to send messages into the past. The more they experiment with the device the more the plot weaves through a variety of timelines.

The first half of this 25 episode series is slow burning, but don't be put off by this pacing as Steins;Gate cranks things up in the run up to the gripping conclusion, made all the more impressive thanks to the series' emotional depth.
