20 Best British TV Comedy Characters Of All Time
8. Will McKenzie - The Inbetweeners
Back in its day, The Inbetweeners was the biggest show going and for good reason. It felt like the first British sitcom that was for teenagers because of its realistic depiction of secondary school life and lad culture. The focus is on four school boys, each with their own odd characteristics, who aren’t quite geeks but not quite cool either. The stories often involved crude, profane and cringe-worthy forms of humour but they were always hilarious and still easily quotable to this very day.
Will is the new kid at school and finds himself in an unlikely friendship with Jay, Neil and Simon. Unfortunately, as the new guy, he is the biggest victim of finding himself in mortifying situations. Within his very first day at Rudge Park, he’s already branded with the nickname “briefcase w*nker” whilst being forced to wear an oversized name badge. To truly tip the scales, two bullies take pictures of him on the toilet and post them publicly around the school. All on his first day.
This was only the beginning for Will’s agonising journey in the new chapter of his life. Some of his most outrageously funny moments would include an awkward sexual encounter with popular school girl “big jugs” Charlotte, throwing up in a water park pool after taking a literal turd to the face and accidentally hitting a disabled woman in the head with a frisbee. He’s had almost every embarrassing moment imaginable happen to him.
Although all the four awkward teen boys are hilarious for their frequent humiliations (and there’s surely a great debate over who’s the best), Will has the edge for his dry sense of humour and sarcasm.
