20 Best British TV Comedy Characters Of All Time
19. Father Jack Hackett - Father Ted
The titular character Father Ted is up to his elbows in dealing with the community of Craggy Island. What should be a peaceful haven for such a small place is actually often chaos, with Ted trying to bring some order amongst the surreal inhabitants of the island. There’s no chance for a bit of tranquillity at home either as he was exiled to live with two other unbearable priests: the empty-headed Father Dougal McGuire and the repulsive Father Jack Hackett.
Father Jack is basically the antithesis of a role model priest – he’s foul-mouthed, aggressive, lazy and relies heavily on alcohol. He is hard of hearing which causes him to yell his coarse language, including his famous “feck off!”. Hackett is also a man of very poor hygiene, obviously noticeable from his rotting teeth and scruffy hair. Furthermore, his drinking problem is not just due to alcohol, as he’ll literally drink any type of liquid, imbibable or not, and may be the overall cause of his low intelligence. He is as disgusting as he is entertaining.
