20 Best Episodes Of Better Call Saul
9. Bad Choice Road (Season 5, Episode 9)
Following one of the show's most horrifically intense chapters, Bad Choice Road finds Saul heavily burdened by his new life as a "friend of the Cartel," and unable to confront the pain of his recent journey through the desert.
As Saul battles PTSD and Kim upends her career, the episode acts as a damning turning point for the show's primary characters, who through fear, impulse, and uncertainty find their lives taking vastly different shapes than they expected before Lalo Salamanca came barrelling into them.
Lalo himself brings about the finest moment of Bad Choice Road, though, as he interrogates Saul about his desert excursion in a brutally chilling way that acts as a cruel foreshadowing to a twist lingering at the backend of season six.
Powerfully performed (Odenkirk was rarely so in control of Saul's many contradictions) and colourfully executed, Bad Choice Road finds its characters at their most downtrodden, but the series at its most compelling.
